A Pastor’s Job Description

I’ve read and re-read the passage below and am just amazed, although I shouldn’t be, how much this sounds like the present times even though it was written somewhere between A.D. 64 and 65. It makes me appreciate even more the burden that our Pastors bear.

See if you can eliminate some of his burdens by volunteering at church. If your church is like ours, many people aren’t comfortable attending in person right now, so they’re probably short-handed in the volunteer department.

I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
2 Timothy 4:1-5 ESV

Please join me this week in praying for our Pastors. Pray that they don’t tire of shepherding, that they maintain their faithfulness, and continue to always lean on the Holy Spirit. Pray that they feel the love of their congregation. Let’s also pray that they remain healthy–physically, mentally, and spiritually. Pray that God provides for their needs and lifts them up daily.
