Praying for the Tornado Victims

I want to spend this week praying for the tornado victims, and anyone else affected by the tornadoes this past weekend. Late Friday and into the early hours of Saturday morning, an outbreak of over 30 tornados ripped across the country hitting six states: Kentucky, Illinois, Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, and Mississippi.

The death toll is currently over 80 people, but many are still missing and feared dead. As I look through the photos of the devastation, my heart breaks for the residents of those areas and for the friends and families of those affected. It wasn’t too long ago when this area (in Ohio) was hit by a series of tornadoes that left a path of destruction. We had 18 tornadoes touch down, but with one death instead of 80+. I’m really just speechless.

For a moment there, I really was speechless. What do you say about so much devastation? I thought it’s probably too soon to be quoting Paul (Romans 5:3-5), but as Christians, we have that mindset. Right? Maybe not in the moment, but after some time has passed. We need time to process the situation, to sit with God and talk to Him about it, about our feelings and emotions. We need the time to ask Him questions and allow Him to help us through the pain. So I went through my blogposts after the Memorial Day tornadoes that hit Ohio in 2019 and found one post that I would like to share today, titled “Profiting from Trials.

Bible Verse of the Day

And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

1 Peter 5:10 ESV

Pray

Please join me this week in praying for the victims of the tornadoes that devastated six states this past weekend. Let’s pray for their healing and restoration. Pray also that they will seek comfort in Jesus Christ and that unbelievers will come to know Him through this experience. Let’s also pray that communities and families come together to help and love one another in a way that will be a blessing to the victims. Pray that the missing people are found.
