Take Time To Be Still

A decor piece that's the word "Peace". Text on the photo says, Take time to be still, focus on God, and there you'll find peace. Photo by Beeda Speis for Peace In The Stillness blog.

I bought this sign (the “Peace” part of the image) on Saturday because I thought it would be a wonderful reminder of the ministry I’m trying to develop (Peace In The Stillness), and as a visual reminder to myself that I have peace because of my relationship with God. Sometimes the world overtakes me and I forget to take time to be still, (Psalm 46:10). I forget to take time to go to my Father. He reminds me, though. The devotional book I’m reading focused on peace this past week, and so did yesterday’s sermon. Because of my ministry’s focus, peace makes me think of God. It’s my belief that we can’t truly be at peace without Him.

Even as I write this, though, I’m feeling overwhelmed. I’m not feeling the peace. Tis the season, after all. Christmastime shouldn’t be like this for Christians, IMO. But, that’s not why I’m feeling overwhelmed. It’s more of an everyday type of over-busyness, and I have to wonder if it isn’t Satan trying to distract me from what God is calling me to do. It’s a constant spiritual warfare with him and I’m sick of it. Maybe that’s why Christmas has become so stressful and full of busyness, to distract us from why Christians celebrate.

What Christmas Should Be

For us, this should be a time of praising God for His amazing gift to mankind. We should be taking time to be still and to focus on Jesus. We should be praising Him for His sacrifice. Not only did He endure a horrible death, but think of the sacrifice He made by coming to earth to be born fully human. The Creator of all was born in a lowly manger. We should be in awe of that every single day, and if we forget, then we should at least be reminded of it during this time of year. Praise Him!

Pray

Spend some time to be still (Mark 4:39) and focus on God alone. Do it this week, this very morning. Pray with thanksgiving for God’s love and mercy. Pray that Christians all over the world focus on God alone and in so doing find that peace that only comes from a relationship with Jesus. Pray that peace shines through like a beacon in the storm for others to see and desire to have for themselves. Pray to be that light for Christ to the world.

Bible Verse of the Day

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

Isaiah 40:31 ESV
