Turkmenistan

Day 5 Turkmen search for security, hope. Life in Turkmenistan is harsh and their story is heartbreaking. The information on IMB’s website for today begins with, “critically broken.” Those words seem to be an apt description of life in a country that seems void of hope. I can’t even imagine living like that; having to leave family and even country to find work. We are so blessed in the U.S. yet many fail to see that reality.

Be thankful for our freedoms and the opportunity to work and provide for our families. We have religious freedom here. In Turkmenistan, parents have to leave their children with other family members in order to travel to neighboring countries to find work. By God’s grace, it’s when they’re working outside of Turkmenistan that they hear of Jesus and what He did for them on the cross. They then have a desire to return to their home country to share the gospel and raise their children in the faith even knowing that by doing so, they’re risking their lives.

Pray that:

  • the desperation the Turkmen feel would make their hearts soft toward the good news of Jesus.
  • God will heal the deep wounds in believing families and use them to build His church.
  • God will turn the hearts of Turkmenistan’s leaders toward the needs of the people and that they will rule with wisdom, justice and mercy.

Bible Verse of the Day:

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!
Psalm 33:12 ESV
