What if?

The top half of the photo is a pile of gray 3D questions marks and one upright red one with the words, "What if we let go of "what if"?
The bottom half of the photo is a person relaxing in a hammock suspended between two palm trees next to the ocean, with the words, "and trusted in God completely?"

Saturday night I didn’t sleep a wink. Some of it was because of a stomach ache, some of it could’ve been because I drank too much coffee too late in the day, but most of it was my mind was racing. I found myself worrying about so many things. What if this? What if that? What would I do if this and that happened???

I tried to reason with myself, but it didn’t work. I tried to calm down, relax my body, but just couldn’t. What I didn’t try was prayer. Prayer should be the first thing we do when we wake up, the last thing we do before we go to sleep, and the thing we do the most often throughout the day (1 Thessalonians 5:17). I know that, yet I forget it time and time again.

God doesn’t want us to worry. He doesn’t want us to be anxious (Matthew 6:25-34). We can give everything up to Him; surrender it all to Him to take care of. We can then just relax knowing that our Heavenly Father has a plan. Everything happens for a reason and we can trust in Him completely. We should change our what-if questions to, “What if I prayed about this? What if I gave it up to my loving Father? What if I trusted God to see me through?”

Bible Verse of the Day

do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7 ESV

Prayer

Please join me in praying for everyone who is having a difficult time this holiday season.

Lord, please heal the broken-hearted. Please right the wrongs, and please bring peace to the troubled. Remind Your children of the peace they can have/find with You by the Spirit who lives inside of us.
We ask for You to be with our friend who is dealing with a work dispute. Today is an important day in the dispute as he meets with the powers that be. Please open the minds and hearts of everyone present. Allow those in charge to see and hear only truth, and guide them to settle this matter in our friend’s favor. Please also heal him from his health problems.
Lord, we trust in You fully and understand that everything happens for a reason. We praise You for Your love, guidance, and sovereignty over all things. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
