He Will Convict the World of Sin

A picture of a gavel and the words from John 16:7-11 NKJV, "Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged."

Do you ever have that sinking feeling that you’ve done something wrong but can’t think of what it might be? I have. When it happens I replay everything I’ve done and thought and said until I pinpoint the culprit. A few times this has happened in response to something I said. But, I didn’t realize how it sounded at the time. It wasn’t until this feeling and subsequent self-analysis played out that I realized my words may have (probably did) come across the wrong way.

So, if I didn’t know I did or said something wrong, why did I have this feeling? My guess is it was from the Holy Spirit. He is the Helper, the Comforter, but He also convicts us of our sin, even unintentional sin. I’m thankful for Him. I don’t know how the unsaved manage without Him.

Since I’ve come back to God, I’ve been more aware of the Spirit within me. Whenever I “desire” to do something that I know is wrong, I’m aware of the Holy Spirit. I don’t want to grieve Him, and that stops me from sinning. Not that I’m capable of being sinless, it’s just now, I believe I sin less (hopefully). We are held to a higher standard because we have the Holy Spirit. We need to listen to Him.

Bible Verse of the Day

Prayer

Father, we come before You to give thanks for the Holy Spirit. He is our Helper, our Comforter. He brings You into our bodies and souls and allows us to know You intimately, Lord. May we never grieve Him. Thank You Almighty God. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
