Rebellious People

A large spiral staircase, with a door to escape through partway down. The photo is in black and white with the words from 1 Corinthians 10:13 ESV, "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." This speaks to rebellious people who are tempted to act that way.

I’ve been thinking about all of the “rebellious” people I’ve known during my life and about what made them that way. At first it seemed like it was either rage or pride, but the more I thought about it, the more reasons I discovered.

  • Rage/anger
  • Pride/narcissism
  • Loneliness/abandonment
  • Not fitting in
  • Lack of social skills
  • OCD
  • PTSD
  • Pain
  • Prefers the path of most resistance

Not that the reason matters so much, but maybe if we understand the background, we can help nurture the source of pain, and/or pray for that healing specifically.

Let Faith Shine Through

Everyone has a story. Everyone has something they’re dealing with, struggling with. It’s how we deal with it that reveals our true character. I’m not saying that we have to put on a happy face when we’re feeling sad, or anything like that, but when we have a relationship with God, our faith shines through during the difficult times. That’s how we glorify Him even if we’re asking, “why me?” We have hope in Christ. We have strength to carry us through the dark times.

Pray for the Rebellious

Whatever the reason for their rebellious nature, our loved ones need our prayers. This week we’re praying for those whose rebellious acts are hurting themselves and/or others. Those who are rebelling against their parents, teachers, anyone in authority, especially against God. This includes those who are refusing God’s free gift of salvation.

Please send me their initials if you have anyone specifically for us to pray for, and keep these people in your prayers: J.H., B.W., L.R., N., K.D., W.Y., T.Y., E.Y., D.E., K.H., B.Z., S.H., W.K., J.L. C.D., L.F., K., A. You can leave a comment below, or contact me here.

Bible Verse of the Day

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
1 Corinthians 10:13 ESV

Prayer

Father, we pray for the loved ones listed above and those we haven’t mentioned who are suffering from a rebellious nature. You know the cause and the root of their rebellion, Lord, and only You can heal them. We humbly ask that You soften these troubled hearts and minds. Father, please bring peace to their troubled souls. Allow them to see the hope and help that You alone can provide. For those who are rebelling against You, who are refusing Your free gift of salvation, Lord we petition You to have them seek You. Send people to them who can show them the Way, dear Lord.
Father God, we beseech You to end the war in Ukraine and to prevent any other wars that may be stirring in the minds of dictators. The loss of life has been so overwhelming during the past several years between the pandemic, this war, and other events. It’s difficult to bear.
Lord, we pray on behalf of the people of Morocco that You utilize this spiritual time to bring them to You. Show them that You are the only true God; Your Son died to save us all. Show them that having faith is sufficient and that no amount of works can gain them access to Your presence. In Jesus’ precious and loving name, we pray. Amen.
