Put God First

A star-lit sky with a bright light shining through and the words to Colossians 3:1-4 ESV, "If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory."

What can we do to put God first? How can we “set [our] minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth” (Colossians 3:2 ESV)? Please take a moment to answer in the comments.

Every morning I wake up and pray for the words to share with you. Some days the words flow, and other days they don’t. Does this mean that some days I’m not really listening to God, not really hearing Him? Am I rushing God, wanting Him to answer in my time instead of His? I’m not sure. Today, the topic didn’t come to me until pretty late, so I don’t feel like I have time to research it. I’m kind of spilling out my thought process here.

Just because I begin each day seeking God’s direction, doesn’t mean I’m putting Him first. Especially if I don’t continue seeking His guidance throughout the day. As you know, this is something I’ve been working on because I have a history of not involving God in every aspect of my life. When that happens, I often choose the wrong path.

Bible Verse of the Day

If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

Colossians 3:1-4 ESV

Prayer

Father, we come to You today to ask that the Holy Spirit work within each of us to remind us always to put You first. We pray that we heed the Holy Spirit’s guidance and wisdom. Lord, help us to develop a closer bond with You, one of constant communication. May our lives bring You glory and may others see that we are a peculiar people. We pray these things in Jesus’ precious name. Amen

I made this reel for Instagram that’s titled “Put God First.” It’s Denzel Washington speaking and I found it very inspiring. It’s not to focus on what we can get from God, but to focus on the grace of God especially when we put Him first.
