The Lord Be With You

Saul told David to “Go, and the Lord be with you!” David had the confidence that God was with him always. Confidence comes from knowing God is on our side. It comes from having faith in Him and knowing His character. It comes when we’ve seen what God can and will do for His children. Confidence comes from knowing God’s will and acting on it.

Young David shows us all of these things. He asks, “For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?” (1 Samuel 17:26b ESV) I believe this question should have put the men of Saul’s army to shame. Where was their confidence in the living God? Where was their faith? We have to remember in all circumstances that nothing is impossible with God (Luke 1:37 ESV).

And David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him, for you are but a youth, and he has been a man of war from his youth.” But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep sheep for his father. And when there came a lion, or a bear, and took a lamb from the flock, I went after him and struck him and delivered it out of his mouth. And if he arose against me, I caught him by his beard and struck him and killed him. Your servant has struck down both lions and bears, and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be like one of them, for he has defied the armies of the living God.” And David said, “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you!”

May God be with the people of Ukraine. May he keep them from the clutch of the enemy. May He draw them to Him.

Dear Father, we pray that You protect the people of Ukraine. We pray also for the Russians who sympathize with Ukraine. We’ve seen Your hand in battle time and time again, how You’ve allowed the little guy, the Davids of the world, to triumph over those who seem impossible to conquer. We’ve seen the small and mighty prevail. Lord, we lift up the families and friends of those who have been killed in battle. We lift up those who have seen death and destruction. Please show them Your presence, Lord. Give them the hope that comes in knowing You. Be with the believers and missionaries in Ukraine, Lord. Give them the words to bring the lost to You. Allow them ways to serve that show Your light during a time of great darkness, Lord. We praise You, we love You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
