Christ in the Temple

The inside of an open temple with the words to Matthew 22:36-39 NKJV, "“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’"

On Wednesday before His death, Christ was in the temple. The chief priests and elders questioned Him as to His authority. Jesus then asked them something that questions their authority, which they couldn’t answer.

Now when He came into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people confronted Him as He was teaching, and said, “By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority?”
But Jesus answered and said to them, “I also will ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things: The baptism of John—where was it from? From heaven or from men?”
And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say to us, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’ But if we say, ‘From men,’ we fear the multitude, for all count John as a prophet.” So they answered Jesus and said, “We do not know.”
And He said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.
Matthew 21:23-27 NKJV

Jesus answers with parables

The Sadduccees, Pharisees, Herodians, and Scribes all question Jesus about different topics hoping to catch Him saying something that will allow them to arrest Him but He answers each question with a parable which puts them in their place(s).
The Parable of the Two Sons – Matthew 21:28-32
The Parable of the Wicked Vinedressers – Matthew 21:33-44
The Parable of the Wedding Feast – Matthew 22:1-14

Then, the Pharisees, Sadducees, and Scribes (lawyers) tried to trip up Jesus with questions:
The Pharisees: Is It Lawful to Pay Taxes to Caesar? Matthew 22:15-22
The Sadducees: What About the Resurrection? Matthew 22:23-33
The Scribes: Which Is the First Commandment of All? Matthew 22:34-40

Bible Verse of the Day

But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
Matthew 22:34-40 NKJV
