Memorial Day 2022

A map of the United States with space between every state. The words of Matthew 12:25 NKJV, "But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand." Consider these words as we celebrate Memorial Day 2022

As you know, today* is a day when we remember and commemorate those who’ve given their lives so that we can be free. We honor the servicemen and women who died protecting and defending our country. They sacrificed themselves for you and for me. Let us not lose sight of that today as we go about our festivities.

They are examples to us and to the rest of the world of what it looks like to love one’s country and the people within. They demonstrated honor and integrity. They showed true courage and bravery.

I believe we’re doing a disservice to the military when spend our days criticizing the government, bad-mouthing our country, and fighting among ourselves. We’ve become a house divided. How does one take pride in that? How does one defend or protect a polarized country?

Bible Verse of the Day

But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.
Matthew 12:25 NKJV

The system is broken and it’s been broken for a long time. As Christians, we need to fervently pray for our country and for unity. We need to be examples of Jesus on earth. We need to listen to one another, show kindness and compassion. We need to love one another.

Everyone just keeps saying this is no longer a Christian nation and, as such, it’s no longer blessed. I understand that certain things need to take place in order for Jesus to return, but I believe we need to have our hands pressed together in prayer, not thrown up in surrender. Please spend time in prayer today about these things.

Prayer

Father, we come to You today to honor our military, who have sacrificed everything so that we may live in a free country. Their families and friends who remain have sacrificed greatly, and we pray for them also, for their comfort and healing. Lord, please encourage believers to honor the fallen by lifting up our country to You for healing. May we honor the servicemen and women by praying for unity for our country. Let not their sacrifices have been in vain, Lord. Remind Your children that we are to love our neighbors and that everyone is our neighbor. We pray for a revival to take place in this great nation and that we once again become a country that is blessed. Lord, we ask these things in Jesus’ most precious name. Amen.

I apologize if this comes across as preachy. I just feel strongly that the Church needs to be an example to the rest of the country, and to the rest of the world.
