How Were You Baptized?

A man laying in ocean water which is foamy all around him. The words to Acts 22:16
  • Baptism is a touchy subject in some circles.
  • – infant baptism
  • – sprinkle or immersion
  • – backward
  • – once forward
  • – three times forward
  • – necessary for salvation
  • – not necessary for salvation

I grew up Methodist. After I was married (a second time), I started attending a Southern Baptist Church, which has a different belief system. In order to become a member of a Southern Baptist Church, you’re usually required to be baptized by immersion (one time backward) because we believe this is how Jesus was baptized.

The church where my grandson was baptized believes salvation is a two-step process. First, a person must accept Jesus as their Savior and then be baptized by immersion.

I’m not here to argue or advocate for any one methodology; that’s for theologians and commentators. My intent is to share what the Bible says and leave it to the Spirit to guide the unsaved to salvation.

And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’

Acts 22:16 NKJV

Father, please lead us to do Your will. Help us to understand about baptism, repentance, and salvation. If the person reading this has not been baptized, please stir Your Spirit to guide them. May we all proclaim our salvation, not just during baptism, but in everything we do. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
