About Me

Silhouette of a woman with her arms raised up praising God. At the top it says: About Me. The rest of the photo is filled with words that describe me: Christian, woman, mother, daughter, sister, wife, friend, author, blogger, encourager, sinner, forgiven, free, loved, servant, child of God, at peace.
by Beeda Speis for Peace in the Stillness blog.

[I originally wrote the first part of this post on my Seven Dgrees of Me blog in 2011*] I took an online class a couple of years ago and the first assignment was to write a brief “about me” type of description of yourself. This really turned out to be a difficult thing for me to do because I took it way too seriously. It was also an interesting observation of humanity; well, if the small group of classmates is a true sampling of all humans, which in this instance, I think they were.

If someone said to you, “tell me about yourself”, without taking the time to think it through, what would your response be? First, everyone stated their first name, but then approximately 70% of the class began their description as a definition of their relationships.

  • “Hi. My name is Karen and I’ve been married to the most wonderful man..
  • “I’m Brenda and my fiance and I have been together for 10 years…
  • “Hey. My name is Sharon and I have two adorable boys, ages 8 and 10,…

The remaining 30% began with their occupation.

  • “Yeah, I’m Susan and I’ve been a sales rep for the past 15 years,…
  • “Hi everyone, my name is Lori and I’m a paralegal,…

I know this may seem like nothing to even ponder, on the surface, but I was really fascinated by this. 100% of the people chose an element of their life beyond themselves as a means of describing themselves.

Another Point of View

So, I looked at it from another point of view: if a total stranger were standing before me and was asked to describe me, what would that person say? Most definitely, the person would use adjectives to describe my physical appearance.

  • “She’s a woman, middle-aged, short, with curly hair .”

Well, that’s not exactly what I call a great way to introduce myself to a group of strangers. So I went back to the relationships and career themes, but I didn’t want to be defined that way either. Who am I? What is the most defining point of my existence?

I don’t have answers to those questions, yet, but I hope to, someday. Until then:

Hi! My name is Shari. I’m a 47-year-old female who lives in Dayton, OH. I am a widow and miss my husband very much; I still grieve. I am a Christian who is fascinated with all religions. I have two grown daughters whom I’m very proud of and extremely thankful for. I have the most supportive parents in the world and am fortunate to be able to live so close to them. I have found the best and most loving and supportive friends through Etsy and I hope that someday we can all meet. When I grow up, I want to help people. I want my life on earth to mean something. I want to accomplish things, important things. I want to have time to enjoy my family and friends, to write and read and travel…

I read a church sign once that said “Have you made God smile today?”

I want to make God smile!

About Me Update January 2022

Hi! My name is Shari. I’m a Christian. I go by Beeda Speis on most of my online profiles nowadays because that’s my pen name. I’m writing a book and building a platform for said book. I’m a 57-year-old female who lives in Dayton, Ohio. I’ve remarried. I’m no longer fascinated with all religions, only learning more about the One True Living God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. I also love studying the Bible.

I have two grown daughters whom I’m very proud of and extremely thankful for. I have the most supportive mother in the world (my father passed away in 2019) and am fortunate to live so close to her. I have found the best and most loving and supportive friends through Etsy and I hope that someday we can all meet. A small group of us still “meet” every day online and love and support one another. I don’t know what I’d do without them.

When I grow up, I want to help people. I want my life on earth to mean something. I want to accomplish things, important things, like sharing the gospel and planting seeds that will lead to more souls being saved. I want to have time to enjoy my family and friends, to write and read and travel…

Additionally

I’d like to share a little more information about me as far as my Christian heart. God has done so much work in me over the past few years. He inspired me to start this blog where I share about my own trials, encourage others (hopefully), share Scripture, and promote prayer. He showed me that prayer is to be my focus. Prayer for missionaries, the unreached and unengaged people groups. Prayer for friends, family, and extended family. Prayer for everyone He sends my way. Prayer for healing. Prayer for salvation. He lets me see the results of these prayers in a lot of cases. He inspires me and encourages me every day.

God led me to start writing a book about God experiences. That led me to having to build a platform. The platform building has given me more people to minister to. I’ve met so many wonderful people! All of that led me to start Peace In The Stillness, and within this month (hopefully) I’ll start sharing how to find that stillness and that peace. I praise God for all of these awesome opportunities. I want to share this with the whole world! I honestly believe that the secret to building a personal relationship with God is to learn how to listen to Him. It’s harder than it sounds, which is why we’ll do this together.

Is there anything you’d like to know about me? Put your questions in the comments, or message me, or email me. Is there anything you would like to share about yourself?

Bible Verse of the Day

But just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please man, but to please God who tests our hearts.
1 Thessalonians 2:4 ESV

Prayer

Father, guide us to do Your will. Give us servant’s hearts that we may be proper image-bearers for You. Open our eyes and our minds to see others as You see them so we can understand them and serve them better. Lord, give us the courage and the words to share the gospel with others, to use the spiritual gifts You have given us to spread the Good News to those You send our way. Allow us to make You smile, Lord. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Note

*For fun, I decided to share some of my favorite posts from my old blog Seven Degrees of Me this week since I’ll be on vacation and need to schedule all of my posts before I leave.
As always, when I go on vacation, I can’t be sure how good the internet will be so if you comment and I don’t respond, assume I have poor service. I fly out Tuesday morning.

Read the About Me Page on Peace In The Stillness. There’s a wonderful photo of a sloth on there!
