Order my steps, Lord

A gold-toned photo with a woman standing in a field, smiling. Her arms are raised up in praise of the Lord. The words at the top read, "Please Lord, order my steps. I submit to You completely."

Almost every year around this time, I write a New Year’s post about my plans, goals, etc. for the coming year. This time, it’s been a little different. I’ve spent the week kind of working out my aspiration for the new year while also examining what I’ve written in previous years. Instead of resolutions or words or themes this year, I chose what God placed on my heart: to trust my entire life to Him, including all aspects of my life. I want to commit to allowing Him to order my steps.

I’ve been aware for quite some time that although I say my life verse is Proverbs 3:5-6, I don’t really live it, not fully. I always fall back into leaning on my own understanding and not following Him in all my ways.

But now, He has placed on my heart that I’ve been practicing for long enough, it’s time to do it for real. So, my New Year’s aspiration is to lean on God completely and allow Him to order my steps.

It’s not a big announcement or even a huge breakthrough, it’s just time; time to give everything up to God, to go to Him first, to lean on Him completely.

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord,
And He delights in his way.
Psalm 37:23 NKJV

Direct my steps by Your word,
And let no iniquity have dominion over me.
Psalm 119:133 NKJV

A man’s heart plans his way,
But the Lord directs his steps.
Proverbs 16:9 NKJV

Blessed are the blameless in the way,
Who walk in the law of the Lord!
Blessed are those who keep His testimonies,
Who seek Him with the whole heart!
They also do no iniquity;
They walk in His ways.
Psalm 119:1-3 NKJV

Prayer

Father, as I prayerfully consider the coming year, I ask You to help me develop a vision and plan to best use my time and resources. I need goals to work toward so I don’t fritter my life away. Thank You for Your guidance and the assurance that plan or not, You are directing my steps. I can trust in You. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
