The Saturday Between

The Saturday between the crucifixion and the Resurrection had to be so very painful for Mary and the others who loved Jesus. Not that they truly comprehended what He meant about the third day, but Saturday – being the Sabbath, they were unable to “do” anything.

When a loved one passes away, we fill the first several days (if not weeks) busying ourselves. There’s so much to do and think about and figure out. But, on the Sabbath, all they could do was think and mourn and anticipate with anxious hearts returning to the tomb on Sunday.

Jesus was not able to be put to rest properly because of the time, the “day of preparation.” How fitting since He wouldn’t be staying in that state anyway.
As much as possible, please spend some time today in reflection. Put yourself in the sandals of the disciples. Mourn what Christ endured for you and me. Praise what Christ endured for you and me.

And the women who had come with Him from Galilee followed after, and they observed the tomb and how His body was laid. Then they returned and prepared spices and fragrant oils. And they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment.
