The Bible is a Living Document

An open bible on a wooden table with a black backdrop. The words from Hebrews 4:12 NKJV "For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. " This shows us that the Bible is a living document.

This passage in Hebrews flat out tells us that the Bible is a living document; it discerns our thoughts and the intent of our hearts. God uses Scripture to communicate with us.

Every time I read the Bible, I glean something new, something that speaks to me personally. If you want to experience the word of God, pray before you read. Pray that the Holy Spirit will speak to you through the reading. Pray that you’ll understand what you’re reading and that you’ll learn from it. Ask for God to lead you through His message.

I went to EnduringWord.com and of course, there was so much wonderful information there on these two Bible verses; way too much for me to paraphrase, so I encourage you to read this section later. Click on the link and then ctrl+F and type (12-13) in the search box.

Commentary

“…as we submit ourselves to the word of God, we do it for…the ministry of the Word, because God meets us in His Word and the Holy Spirit works powerfully through the word of God.”

David Guzik

Bible Verse of the Day

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
Hebrews 4:12-13 NKJV

Prayer

Father, we praise You and thank You for Your living, breathing word. We appreciate this book that allows us to know You better, to know Your character, Your will. You are such an amazing, loving Father to provide this precious book for us, to speak to us through Your word. Please encourage Your children who aren’t in the word to dig in deep and discover what You have to say. In Jesus’ most precious name, we pray. Amen.

This week we’re praying with thanksgiving for the provision of the Bible; a textbook of sorts on how to get through this life, and an introduction to the next life. You can read the first post by clicking here.
