The Bible is God’s Living Word

A lantern shining light on a person's feet with the words from Psalm 119:105 ESV: "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." The Bible is God's living word.

Someone asked on social media, “When you get to Heaven, what’s the one burning question you’ll ask Jesus?” So many of us responded that we ask our questions now, and He answers. Why wait? The Bible is God’s living word. He speaks to us through it.

Jesus’ death and resurrection tore the veil so we have direct access to our Father. He is always with us. He hears us. Go to the Father in prayer. Ask Him your burning question and wait in quiet meditation for an answer. It may not come right away but stay alert. God speaks to us through the words of others, from the pulpit, and even through a song. If you’re in the word, He often reveals Himself there.

The more aware we are of God’s presence, the easier the 2-way conversation becomes. This is the main focus I wanted for my Peace in the Stillness ministry. It’s just been a slow process figuring out what to do, and maybe it will always be a work in progress. Step one is to encourage people to read their Bibles. Scripture is of no use to us sitting on a shelf accumulating dust.

Chronological Bible Reading Plan

I just started a chronological reading plan recently which I’ve been sharing on Instagram and will set up a space to share here (hopefully) later this week. I’ve bought Bible highlighters (they don’t bleed through the pages) and gel pens. The highlighters were purchased years ago but I couldn’t decide what color to use for what. Now that I’ve started, the 5 or 6 colors aren’t enough, so I bought gel pens. This is also a work in progress.

Reading plans are usually designed to get you through the Bible in one year. I don’t think that’s a good idea. It’s better to take your time. Look up commentary, pray, meditate and glean what God is telling you through His Word.

Bible Verse of the Day

Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light to my path.
Psalm 119:105 ESV

Prayer

Father, I pray for the person reading this to delve deep into Your word. If they are a faithful Bible reader, I pray that their minds and hearts are open to what You want to tell them. If they’ve been away from Scripture for a while, I pray that the Holy Spirit convicts them to open their Bibles and begin reading. I am so thankful for Your word and Your presence in my life and I want more than anything for everyone to have the confidence I feel in knowing You are with us always. Thank You, Father. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
